Dehumidifier not collecting water: check load, settings, and drainage.
Compare actual humidity and temperature with the setpoint, then check the bucket, filter, drain setup, and model-specific faults.

An empty bucket does not by itself prove failure.
If the room is already near the humidity setpoint, there may be little water to remove. If a continuous drain is connected, water may leave without entering the bucket. A dehumidifier can also pause for defrost, a bucket interlock, or a protective delay. Start with the displayed state and actual conditions.
Record room temperature and relative humidity with a separate monitor away from the exhaust. Note the setpoint, operating mode, full-bucket indicator, error code, and drain arrangement. Do not repeatedly reset the appliance or buy a replacement compressor from the observation that its fan still runs.
Separate these common situations.
The moisture load may be low or the compressor may have cycled off.
Compare the room trend with the actual setpoint.
Condensate may be leaving through the hose.
Check the approved discharge location and setup.
Seating, float position, or a model-specific sensor issue.
Reseat only as instructed; do not bypass the interlock.
Performance and defrost depend on temperature.
Check the exact operating range, not a generic minimum temperature.
Airflow, controls, refrigeration, or drainage may need diagnosis.
Complete the owner checks and use the model’s service path.
Read the display and allow the prescribed delays.
Some displays show the selected target temporarily and then return to measured humidity; others behave differently. Read the display description before interpreting a number as room temperature or assuming that a setting change failed. Check the mode, timer, child lock, and any connected application schedule.
Compressor protection can delay a restart after the unit stops. Defrost can also interrupt water removal. Use the delay stated in the manual rather than repeatedly unplugging the unit. Do not use continuous mode to mask a sensor error or force the room below an appropriate humidity level.
Check the bucket and float with the appliance safely stopped.
Switch off and unplug the appliance as directed before removing the bucket or cleaning user-serviceable parts. Empty and reseat the tank on its intended supports. Inspect an accessible float only under the manual; some floats need to remain in a precise position.
A cracked bucket, missing part, or persistent false-full indication may need a documented replacement. Do not tape a float down, bridge a switch, or operate with the bucket removed unless that exact approved drain configuration allows it. An overflow-protection fault can turn a collection problem into building damage.
Not draining is a separate fault from not removing moisture.
For gravity drainage, confirm the correct adapter, a compatible hose, the required downward route, and an allowed discharge point. A hose rising above the outlet can prevent drainage. Kinks, debris, or an incorrectly installed cap can also divert water into the bucket.
For pumped drainage, check the model’s pump mode, hose connection, lift limit, and discharge route. A pump error is not solved by applying gravity-hose dimensions from a different model. Observe accessible connections only; do not open electrical compartments or reach into powered reservoirs.
If water appears on the floor, stop the appliance and correct the leak before more operation. Protect the electrical connection and do not handle a wet plug while standing in water. Ask for qualified help when safe isolation is uncertain.
Check the filter, clearance, and operating environment.
Clean the designated reusable air filter under the manual and allow it to dry as required before refitting. Do not wash an element that is not described as washable, operate without required protection, or spray the entire appliance. Keep inlets and outlets clear by the specified distances.
Compare operation with doors, windows, and moisture sources under control. A unit may collect water continually yet fail to lower room humidity because new moisture keeps arriving. Conversely, low collection in a cool dry room is not a meaningful full-capacity test. A room-area claim assumes suitable operating conditions.
When the owner checks are finished.
Use the exact model’s error-code table and warranty process. A fan that runs without effective moisture removal, repeated icing beyond normal defrost, a burning smell, damaged cord, or recurring trip needs service. Do not open the refrigerant system or add refrigerant from a household troubleshooting guide.
Before arranging repair or replacement, check whether the exact model and serial range is covered by a safety recall. Keep that check specific; neither a brand name nor an old internet post establishes that your appliance is affected.

Common questions
Why is the fan running but no water collects?
The humidity target may have been reached, the unit may be delaying or defrosting, or a fault may remain. Compare the measured conditions and model status before diagnosing the compressor.
Why does it say bucket full when empty?
The tank may be seated incorrectly or its float or sensing arrangement may have a problem. Follow the manual and never defeat the shutoff.
Can I use it in a cold basement?
Only within the documented operating range. Capacity and defrost behavior vary with temperature and model.
Should I leave it on continuously?
Use the appliance instructions and a suitable humidity target. Continuous operation is not a repair for an interlock, sensor, refrigeration, or drainage fault.
